Job Description

The Youth Director position will be a full-time, salaried staff position with benefits. This person is to be a member of, or have a working knowledge of, the Episcopal Church, serving as a Christian leader and minister to the youth of Trinity Church, through the following:

  • Oversee the development and implementation of programs for all youth in 6th - 12th grade
  • Regularly attend worship at Trinity, becoming a part of the life of the parish
  • Teach a Sunday morning class for the EYC
  • Plan and lead regular EYC gatherins on Sunday and Wednesday evenings
  • Coordinate participation in youth Sundays and annual Youth Day
  • Encourage parents and other parish members to volunteer as Youth Group Coordinators, assisting the Youth Director in the implementation of all programs, classes, mission trips, etc.
  • Help create and foster a sense of evangelism and outreach through mission projects on a local, national, and international level
  • Work as part of a team, functioning as a full member of the parish staff, reporting to the Rector
  • Plan and lead fund raising events for the EYC
  • Attend and facilitate the EYC at annual Parish Retreat
  • Be available and accessible to the youth through regular office hours as well as showing support in school and community activities
  • Attend training and comply with all diocesan regulations as required by the Diocese of Alabama

 Job Description

This position is responsible for facilitating and supervising all children's ministry programs and activities. This requires working closely with the Rector, as well as other ministry staff and volunteers. Currently, this is a 20-hour-per-week position. The requirements are:

  • Passion for children's ministry
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with children and parents
  • Ability to take initiative and follow up on projects
  • Ability to lead and facilitate meetings regarding the ministry and training
  • Knowledge of various Windows-based computer applications
  • Experience leading and working with various age groups of children and adults
  • A positive attitude and lots of energy
  • Comfortable sharing faith with others
  • Comfortabled with performance-related activities in front of a group (e.g. skits, songs with hand motions)
  • Must be willing to be trained in the "Catechesis of the Good Shepherd", a Montessori-based program, the Anglican liturgy, spiritual and intellectual tradition
  • Ability to help formulate and maintain a budget
  • Possess a four-year degree in a related field (e.g. Psychology, family studies, child development)
  • Must successfully complete a background check and undergo diocesan sexual conduct training ("Protecting God's Children")

Responsibilites:

This position includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities performed under the direction of the Rector:

  • Supervise, plan and direct weekly children and youth programs. Oversee the needs of the nursery, "Catechesis of the Good Shepherd" program, children's church, Journey to Adulthood, and the Sunday evening youth program (EYC)
  • Oversee the training for Sunday morning classes, children's church, and evenint youth programs, as well as any other volunteer training needed, including "Protecting God's Children" and Red Cross training for nursery workers
  • Coordinate and recruit volunteers for various annual events (Mardi Gras, Trunk-or-Treat, Christmas pageant, Vacation Bible School, Youth Sunday, and youth outreach projects) and as needed throughout the ministry year
  • Formulate and coordinate future children's events and activities
  • Assist with publication and correspondence needs within the ministry, including newsletter articles, weekly updates, and announcements in the church service bulletin, and mail-outs to volunteers and youth
  • Maintain annual budget and handle all related reimbursements and bill payments
  • Create and chair a leadership council of major volunteer leaders
  • Attend parish office staff meetings and worship committee meetings
