Christ Church, Albertville, has been awarded a $4,000 grant from The Episcopal Church’s Young Adult and Campus Ministry program. This funding will support the revitalization of the long-abandoned Canterbury Club chapel at Snead State Community College—a space that has gone unused for nearly two decades.

The renewed chapel will provide a welcoming environment for students to gather in prayer, fellowship, and community for years to come.

“We are excited to begin renovations on this space at Snead State Community College for future meetings and events, with the support of University President Joe Whitmore,” said the Rev. Shari Harrison, rector of Christ Church. “Snead is a two-year college where most students earn an AA or AS degree. We already have several faithful student members, and each year we hope to gather more. Having a dedicated chapel will be a truly positive step forward.”

The Executive Council of The Episcopal Church announced last week the award of 19 grants, totaling $135,000, to young adult and campus ministries from dioceses across the U.S., Europe, Caribbean, and South America. The projects include the development and expansion of young adult groups, a speaker series, teaching English as a second language, a community meal program, and more.

Young Adult and Campus Ministry grants provide funding for dioceses, congregations, community colleges, tribal colleges, and university campuses that engage or seek to engage with young adults on and off campus. The Executive Council approved this year’s recommended grants—out of 33 applications.
