Summer is drawing to a close, and fall is just around the corner.  Even thinking about the season brings up a multitude of associations; hopefully, stewardship is on your list. These days, the church is one of many things that compete for our time and support.    While there are practical aspects to the equation, more importantly, stewardship is a chance to show the value the Church holds in our lives. For me, church is my community, supporting me in ways I would not expect. 

As I think of the value my church has in my heart, I must put into context how I demonstrate that.  Jesus tells us in Luke 12:34, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” This seemingly simple statement challenges us as Christians to consider where we place our trust, priorities, and ultimate allegiances. 

The Church is not simply a building or an institution.  It is a representation of Christ in our lives and a way to proclaim the gospel, form disciples, care for and serve our communities.  When you share the abundance that God has provided, you align your priorities with Christ.

Each act of stewardship becomes a step in discipleship, helping our hearts grow closer to what God values and strengthening our commitment to follow Jesus. So, this fall, I challenge you to examine your own stewardship and see it as a chance to help shape your heart.  Think of it not only as funding the Church, but instead as a chance to declare “I trust God with what He has entrusted to me.”  When we give, we participate in God’s work in the world.
