We are delighted to announce that The Rev. Cameron Nations will join the Diocese of Alabama as Canon for Vocations, effective October 2024.
The Rev. Nations brings over a decade of experience in ordained ministry, clergy development, and vocational discernment. In this role, he will collaborate closely with the Bishop and the Canon to the Ordinary to identify, form, and nurture new leaders for ministry. He will also provide formation and theological education for current clergy and lay leaders, enriching the spiritual life and leadership within the diocese.
His vision for vocation is deeply rooted in the understanding of the nature of the church found in Paul’s letters, that the church is the body of Christ, and that every member of the body is integral to the whole.
This appointment marks The Rev. Nations’ return to our Diocese, where he previously served as Associate Rector for Parish Life and Community Development at Saint Luke’s in Mountain Brook from 2017 to 2020. During his time at Saint Luke’s, he was highly engaged in diocesan life and served on numerous committees and departments, including the Department of Camp McDowell and the Department of Parish Development and Evangelism.
Since 2020, The Rev. Nations has been the Rector of St. Richard’s Episcopal Church in Round Rock, Texas, a suburb of Austin. There, he led the parish through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and positioned it for future growth through a strategic plan focused on vocational discernment and lay leadership. His work extended beyond the parish, including active participation in local aid organizations and service on two diocesan grant-making foundations overseeing more than $200 million in assets. On the Strategic Mission Grant Committee, for instance, he helped distribute approximately $1 million annually to support innovative initiatives across the Diocese of Texas and the wider Anglican Communion.
He is married to Carly, who is currently pursuing her PhD in English at the University of Texas. They have a three-year-old daughter, Cece, as well as two dogs, Arthur and Rupert, and a cat named Mabel.
Please join us in welcoming The Rev. Cameron Nations and his family back to the Diocese of Alabama as he begins this exciting new chapter in his ministry.
